
Library Director - Milton Public Library
The Library Director, under the oversight of the Board, assumes a pivotal role in executing administrative and professional duties pertaining to the strategic planning, coordination, and supervision of comprehensive library services serving Milton, Pennsylvania, and its neighboring communities.
This role entails significant administrative responsibilities encompassing the orchestration of diverse functions within the public library sphere. The Director is tasked with the effective management of library collections and the delivery of services to patrons and community groups.
The position demands a comprehensive grasp of the intricacies of the public library domain, necessitating proficiency, expertise, and adeptness across all facets of library operations.
General Job Description:
The Library Director collaborates closely with the Library Board and community groups in the thoughtful planning and seamless execution of library services. In this role, the Director serves as a key professional and managerial figure, guiding the library's activities, staff, and overall direction.
With a focus on fostering community engagement, the Director is entrusted with recommending strategies, spearheading development efforts, and orchestrating the implementation and evaluation of diverse library services. Balancing foresight with practicality, the Director exercises sound judgment and discretion to effectively meet service objectives, all while maintaining open communication and collaboration with the invested Library Board of Trustees.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Library Director will work to elevate user experience and forge impactful connections within the vibrant Milton community.
- Embark on a journey to empower and enrich the skills of our current and future staff, fostering a culture of excellence to deliver exceptional service to our community.
- Provide personalized service to our community, whether in person, over the phone, or through digital means.
- Actively participate in local community meetings, sharing insights and updates with our Board of Directors and dedicated staff.
- Occasionally attend township and borough meetings once a quarter to keep the township and borough apprised as to the functions of libraries.
- Exercise fiscal prudence by approving and vigilantly monitoring all library expenditures to align with our approved budget.
- Cultivate an engaging public image for the Milton Public Library through captivating brochures, newsletters, flyers, and compelling newspaper articles.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire our dedicated library staff, nurturing their professional growth and, when necessary, making tough decisions in recruitment and termination.
- Provide comprehensive updates and insights into library operations and innovations at monthly board meetings.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends and best practices for a public library.
- Responsible for pursuing and writing grants in a timely manner to ensure the library is obtaining all appropriate monies.
- Embrace additional duties as assigned, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of our library's success.

Recommended Qualifications for the Job:
Education:
Bachelor's degree including 12 credits in library science from a 4-year accredited college or university
OR
Bachelor's degree with no credits in library science from a 4-year accredited college or university and 12 credits in library science or the ability to attain the credits within the first year of employment.
Experience:
- Professional experience in fundraising, grant writing, and crafting dynamic library programs while forging strong community connections.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online to streamline financial operations.
- Management experience to lead and inspire teams toward shared goals and accomplishments is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Stand for periods of time.
- Bending, crouching required.
PTO: 8 Days/year and most federal holidays.
Schedule: 37.5+ per/week including some evenings and some Saturdays.
